Soleami in General

Q. How do you pronounce soleami?

It’s pronounced as “So Ray Me”.

Q. How did you derive the name “soleami”?

Soleami is derived from a French “ami du soleil” that means a friend of sun. We named this service soleami hoping you would always have and use it as a friend of Solr (sun).

Q. Is soleami a free service?

Yes, soleami is provided free of charge.

Q. Is soleami a performance monitoring tool for Solr?

No, soleami is NOT a performance monitoring tool for Solr. Soleami extracts search keywords from Solr query logs, summarize them, and visualize the data that visitors are interested in. You will easily be able to see interest trends and seasonal variability of visitors as the charts provide you with “frequently searched keywords” and “sub keywords that are searched with those top search keywords”.

Registration and Cancellation

Q. Can I use soleami without registering with the service?

No. Because soleami’s query log visualization service will have to obtain and analyze your important query logs. Please read carefully and agree to its terms and conditions before registration.

Q. Why do I have to enter the URL of my Web site at user registration?

We are asking you to enter your URL so we can refer to the data to determine your line of business. We may use the information on your line of business when we statistically process your query logs.

Q. What do I need to do to cancel the service?

Please use this form to cancel the service.

Log Files and Upload

Q. Can you visualize Apache access logs?

We can not visualize Apache access logs. Please upload Solr query logs.

Q. As you know, the format of Solr query logs is customizable. Can you visualize any format?

Currently, we only visualize query log in the non-customized “standard” format. Please refer to blog articles for the details.

Q. Can you visualize Solr query logs that still have Java exceptions in them?

They will be visualized as soleami ignores all lines except for query logs.

Q. Is there any limit as to the size of query logs to be uploaded?

Yes. Please refer to blog articles for the details.

Q. Is there any limit as to the period of visualization and the number of words to visualize?

Yes. Please refer to blog articles for the details.

Q. Do I have to Zip query logs before uploading?

Yes. Please encrypt and Zip the logs with a passcode specified by the system before uploading.

Q. Do you support compression format other than ZIP when uploading query logs?

Currently, we support Zip only. Please encrypt with the passcode specified by the system when you Zip.

Q. I forgot to encrypt the logs with a passcode specified by the system when I Zipped them. It seems, however, that visualization is successfully done.

To keep your logs secure, soleami provides you with an encryption passcode when you Zip your log files. Soleami, however, can Unzip an unencrypted file and load the unzipped file to the log analysis server.

Q. Do I have to use ”.zip” as the extension for Zipped file?

No. Zipped file do not have to have ”.zip” extension.

Q. Do I have to use ”.log” as the extension for log files in a Zipped file?

No. Log files in your Zipped file do not have to have ”.log” extension.

Q. Can I upload a Zipped file that contains more than one log file?

Yes. You can upload Zipped file that contains more than one log file and/or directory hierarchy and have soleami properly analyze and visualize them.

Q. My browser displays “security warning” when I try to upload a Zipped file.

Your Zipped file will be uploaded directly to the log analysis server via non-SSL connection in order to reduce system load while the uploaded form will be sent via SSL connection as the server sends you an encryption passcode. This is why some browsers display a security warning. There is, however, no need to worry about that as a Zipped file is encrypted by an encryption passcode.

Q. How can I delete previously uploaded data and visualize new query logs?

Previously uploaded data will all be deleted if you check “Initialize database” when you upload a file.

Q. Does soleami support multi-core system?

Soleami can visualize query logs that a multi-core Solr system output but cannot display them by core.

Q. Does soleami support distributed search?

Please upload query logs that any one of your Shards output If you have a distributed search Solr.

System Requirements

Q. What browsers and their versions do you support?

You need IE9, FF3.6.16/5.0.1, Safari 5.0.5, Chrome 12.0.742.122 or later to visualize a file. Browsers that are older than these versions may not work properly.

Q. Do I need an Internet connection?

Yes. You need an Internet connection.

Q. Do I need to have cookie and JavaScript enabled?

Yes. You need to have cookie and JavaScript enabled.

Q. I get a message that says ”Your web browser must have JavaScript enabled in order for this application to display correctly.” when I click the visualization menu.
